Over You

She was just sitting there peacefully
enjoying a little coffee
in her favorite persimmon cup
and there you came
crashing into her thoughts
like a car through a plate glass window
She ducked behind an upturned table
hoping to shield herself from the shards of spraying glass
but you'd already pierced the membrane of her soul
Her insides curled up
like a cheap wallpaper job in a steamy bathroom
exposing the fact that she still isn't over you

Time and again it seems
you just can't resist
carelessly kicking a pebble off a bridge
into the perfectly still pool below
sending the pain radiating in concentric circles
engulfing all that she is
reminding her of all that you were
How dare you sit there
painting memories
that sting her heart
as you take her back to those simpler days
when cares were few
and you loved freely
never seeing the end ahead
How is it that just when she thinks you're finally gone
she finds you playing in her heart
like a song on endless repeat
and damn it
now all she can see
through the blur of her tears
is that she’s still not over you
